Beezie.
One women show written and performed by Sheila Flitton,(Mrs McCormack/the Banshee in the Banshees of Inisherin)

bezzie.jpg

Ranelagh arts in conjunction with DCC is excited to present Beezie:

Beezie is the true story of a woman from Sligo who decided to live her life alone on an Island with just her beasts for comfort and the odd visitor who ventured to row over to her, including W B Yeats. It is at times charming, funny and poignant but above all it is a mesmerising piece of live theatre.

Beezie’ is written and performed by Sheila Flitton, who played Mrs McCormack/the Banshee in the Banshees of Inisherin.

Beezie Gallagher was, for over sixty years, the sole resident of an island on Lough Gill, County Sligo. Born in the 1872 and orphaned in her teens, Beezie’s wisdom, robust humour and fierce independence gained her a reputation as healer, wise woman and witch.

BEEZIE – Sheila Flitton's solo play

This is a free event but any donations are welcome and will go towards funding the festival.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. BYOB

'Castro's Spies

'Castro's Spies' is the kind of documentary where you know the story could easily be turned into a movie, but it would never be able to capture any of the richness or the integrity of a documentary. Not only that, it seems all but virtually certain that no mainstream US studio would even dare take on the story for fear of it being accused of collaboration and communism.

The film festival will be held in the Stella Cinema - Ranelagh

  • HP Lovecraft and the Moon Bo: Leading scholars and experts in Gothic Literature, Religions, Folklore, Environmental Science and Mythology explore both the real and fantastical landscapes coded into HP Lovecraft's classic short story - 'The Moon Bog' - set within Ireland's ancient Peatlands.

  • The Martyrs of Khartoum: The Martyrs of Khartoum is the story of three doctors, Sara Ali, Sarah Khalifa and Rania Ahmed, and the roles they played during the Khartoum Massacre in Sudan on 3rd June, 2019. All three doctors risked their own lives by responding to the young protesters who were attacked by security forces in Khartoum, Sudan’s capital, that day. These security forces included the notorious Janjaweed militia, infamous for their killings in Darfur, western Sudan. The young people who were killed in Khartoum on 3rd June were referred to as “martyrs” by their fellow protesters. In this short film, Sara, Sarah and Rania describe the dramatic events of that day, the unbreakable spirit of the young protesters and their hopes for the future of Sudan.

  • Resonant Frequency: Resonant Frequency is a short film about community and radio set in Dublin, Ireland. The story is told through the experiences of DIY broadcasters who have fashioned their own unique shows and voices through the platform of Dublin Digital Radio, an online radio station setup as a credible alternative to mainstream commercial broadcasters. The station has given a home and platform to a diverse network of creative scenes across Ireland, with roots from Chicago to Tokyo. Turn on, tune in and get involved

  • The Small Steps: Three generations of Ireland’s finest knifemakers live around Bantry Bay, between Schull and Glengarriff. This short documentary looks at the small steps they follow through their process of knifemaking.

The film festival will be held in the Stella Cinema - Ranelagh

The Delvin Hotel, Ranealgh

11am – 12pm

Feature Short followed by presentation of Festival winner.

  • Come down: Ciara won't come downstairs. Shane isn't happy. But finding Ciara's gratitude journal inspires a chaotic plan to restore balance.

  • The Book of Babies Names: A woman must face dark realities as she chooses a name for her unborn baby.

  • "Apocalypse notes (music is in danger)": French with English subtitles. What would happen if, like polar bears, music was about to disappear? If all of a sudden, all the melodies in the world are already composed? if no new song could be invented? How would mankind react? That's what Thomas, a young and enthusiastic musician, is about to say to Jeanne, his fiancée.

  • Ghosting: Alice invites her ex-boyfriend over to solve an awkward problem; his grandmother is haunting her house.

  • The Oral Exam | An Bhéaltriail: Irish with English subtitles. An overly confident Leaving Cert. Irish student does his oral exam with a world-weary examiner.
