Friday film club presents A Centre of Power by Eleanor McCarroll
When: Friday October 3rd, 8pm
Where: Ranelagh Arts, 6 Ranelagh.

About: Eleanor McCarroll
Writer/ editor/ multimedia artist - Dublin Ireland
Coming from a background in Visual Culture studies in NCAD, Eleanor’s primary practice is
in writing about art as a way to criticise and interrogate the world that we interact with. Along
with academic studies dealing with occult systems, modern art and film, she also has written for online magazines and is a freelance editor. Outside of her writing practice Eleanor is a multidisciplinary artist and exhibition curator.
In her recent textile art studies, McCarroll works with repetitive and ritualistic techniques to
create objects for a hypothetical occult society. The film “A Centre of Power” is an extension of this textile work. This work also speaks to the artist’s passion for doing projects using extremely amateur means and facilities as it is all done using a smart phone and help from volunteers on a shoestring budget.
This work also aims to play with her interests in Irish rock art, museum and archive experience and extensive research in 20th century western, occult practices. By interchanging the symbols used in these rituals, the work wants to reframe and shine an alternative light on a history that we take for granted. This the artist hopes would allow for usually overlooked systems of power and belief to be given thoughtful consideration by audience interaction.
